Jan Cairnes, Certified Addiction Prevention Professional, plays a key role in educating coaches, athletes and the community on steroid prevention for Florida high school athletes. She represents Hanley Center and the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) at the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s Clean Sport Alliance and is a national trainer of Atlas and Athena steroid and eating disorder prevention and health promotion programs. Her background in business management coupled with her commitment to educating families has fueled her successful implementation of prevention programs. As a renowned parent educator and motivational speaker, she has been tirelessly affecting the lives of parents and their children in the community for the past 20 years. Jan joined Hanley Center in 1998 to bring a model approach to prevention education, and has co-authored two prevention programs, Bounce: Be a Resilient Child, for children aged six to twelve, and Aging to Perfection, an education and prevention program for older adults. She is published in Parenting Plus Magazine.
Jan is a member of the National Council on Family Relations, Palm Beach County Substance Abuse Coalition, Florida Association of Drug Court Professionals, the Family Life Educators Network in Palm Beach County and is a founding member of Professionals Against Doping and Vice President of the Board for the Narcotics Overdose Prevention and Education (NOPE) Taskforce. She is a FHSAA Official for track and field and cross-country, and is a member of the FHSAA Steroid Prevention Steering Committee. Jan was instrumental in Florida winning the prestigious Sports Illustrated Award in 2006 and was able to increase the number of SI school awards given in Florida from 4 to 17 through her fundraising efforts. Jan was a finalist for Sun-Sentinel’s Sports Person of the year in 2007, and in 2008, was named Outstanding Sports Contributor by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.
Jan received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Eastern Kentucky University, and is trained in science-based prevention,
Motivational Interviewing and advanced accountability. She is also a National trainer for Active Parenting.
