Psychological Evaluation

During the first 24 hours after a patient is admitted, a member of the psychology department will perform an initial evaluation to determine if the patient can go through psychological tests prior to leaving detox.
During a psychological evaluation, our staff assesses patients through a one hour interview and standard psychological tests including
- MMPI II and MCMI III, which measure a patient’s personality style
- Shipley and TONI III, which measure a patient’s level of intellectual functioning
These tests also aid in identifying possible cognitive difficulties.
Our interpretation of the test results enables us to provide intervention recommendations that
- Identify positive, healthy patterns that will enhance their recovery and patterns that may hinder recovery (MMPI/MCMI)
- Ensure appropriate learning strategies are used throughout the patient's experience at Hanley (Shipley/TONI)
Each patient then develops a plan of care that establishes goals and treatment methods related to the problems identified in the assessment process.
