Physical signs of addiction:
  • Tolerance
  • Withdrawal
  • Hangovers
  • Falls
  • Tremors
  • Poor appearance and hygiene
  • Blackouts
  • Weight loss or weight gain
  • Liver, kidney, heart problems
  • Loss of control

Psychological signs of addiction:
  • Preoccupation - excessive amount of time spent thinking about alcohol or drugs
  • Increased irritability, agitation and anger, lowered threshold for violence
  • Shame, guilt, fear
  • Depression
  • Memory loss / confusion
  • Increased anxiety / stress
  • Isolation
  • Poor judgment

Social signs of addiction:
  • Using despite negative consequences
  • Occupational
  • Educational difficulties
  • Damaged relationships
  • Withdraw from social and leisure activities
