Expectations for Adolescent Outpatient Treatment
The expectations for adolescent outpatient treatment differ depending upon which stage of substance abuse and treatment tier the teenager is in.
Tier I (Misuse)
- Abstinence from all mind- and mood-altering substances for the duration of treatment
- Participation in all scheduled sessions, groups, drug screens, and assignments
- Family involvement as determined through the assessment and individual sessions
- A minimum of 4 individual counseling sessions at the Hanley Center
- A minimum of 1 family counseling session at the Hanley Center
Tier II (Abuse)
- Abstinence from all mind- and mood-altering substances for the duration of treatment
- Participation in all scheduled sessions, groups, drug screens, and assignments
- Family involvement as determined through the assessment and individual sessions
- Attendance of one outside community-based support group that addresses addiction
- This could be a traditional 12-Step meeting or any formal support group addressing addiction in the community.
- Weekly attendance of individual counseling at the Hanley Center for a minimum of 8 sessions
- A minimum of 2 family sessions at the Hanley Center
- If assigned, weekly attendance of substance abuse group at the Hanley Center
Tier III (Dependency)
- Abstinence from all mind- and mood-altering substances for the duration of treatment
- Participation in all scheduled sessions, groups, drug screens, and assignments
- Family involvement as determined through the assessment and individual sessions
- Attendance of one outside community-based support group per week that addresses addiction. This could be a traditional 12-Step meeting or any formal support group addressing addiction in the community.
- A minimum of 3 family sessions at the Hanley Center
- Weekly attendance of substance abuse group at the Hanley Center for a minimum of 12 groups
- Weekly attendance of individual counseling at the Hanley Center for a minimum of 12 sessions
