Chapel

Hanley Center’s chapel is an inviting, calming place to meditate and pray. It is available every day from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Roll over the picture for a brief description of the characteristics that make our chapel a unique and special place.
The Round Circular Shape represents a safe place to get centered and in touch with yourself. It is an archetypal atmosphere reminiscent of the womb.
The Wooden Surfaces enhance the nurturing atmosphere and provide a life-giving energy. The ceiling is native Florida pecky cypress, the walls and trim are cedar, and the floor is white oak.
The Compass Star Medallion in the Floor Center represents a place to get your bearings, find yourself, and give new direction to your life.
The Stained Glass Windows: Green, blue and purple criss-crossing ribbons symbolize the elements of joy and sorrow that intermingle in every life. The Moon and Sun represent “a day at a time,” or the endings and new beginnings suggested by dusk and dawn.
The Fountain, visible through the window, represents the vitality of rebirth and new life.
The Center Skylight: Like the domes and clear stories of churches and temples, the skylight allows beams of transcendent light to stream in, suggesting the presence of a Higher Power in the midst of our fellowship.
The Framed Prints:
- “The Hands” (from Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam), suggests a breaking out of isolation and getting in touch with a Higher Power.
- “The Family” suggests re-cultivating a sense of intimacy in life and the wholeness and well-being of human contact.
The Meditation Music engages the heart on a spiritual journey of finding serenity at the inner core of one’s being, where the relationships with our fellow human beings and the God of our understanding merge in a reality that transcends the senses.
