Women’s Treatment

Today, we know that women are more likely to experience discrimination based on their physical appearance and more likely to function as single parents. Likewise, women are also more likely to be victims of abuse or assault, and they receive diagnoses of depression and anxiety at higher rates than men. This understanding informs the way we provide addiction treatment at Hanley Center as many of these issues can exacerbate substance use. Body image disorders, trauma, and co-occurring mental health disorders are all risk factors for addiction that we see among the women seeking treatment.
At Hanley, these concerns matter to our team. We provide care that takes every woman’s past and the reasons that she has arrived on our campus into account. We emphasize safety, support, understanding, and compassion, allowing the women we treat to look toward a brighter, sober future.

EMDR for Trauma Therapy
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a cutting-edge approach to trauma therapy that helps re-frame traumatic memories. This proven form of therapy enables people to heal from the emotional distress resulting from disturbing life experiences. Using EMDR therapy can help a patient disassociate the trauma from the event itself, giving her relief and improved control over her reactions to life stressors.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) focuses on identifying and changing negative behaviors and thought patterns. In sessions that utilize CBT, the patient collaborates with her therapist work through exercises aimed at changing these patterns. These exercises are put into practice in everyday life between therapy sessions and our caring primary therapists follow up on each woman’s progress.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational interviewing techniques can help patients identify issues that prevent them from taking action to change their life. Traumatic experiences and substance misuse can both place a mental block on a patient’s ability to move forward with her goals. Through skilled motivational interviewing, we can help our patients renew their confidence and pave the way for a better future.
Neurofeedback and Biofeedback
Neurofeedback and biofeedback can help a person retrain their brain. These powerful evidence-based techniques are offered through the psychologist-led Center for Brain Recovery nestled on our campus. Through these cutting edge psychological techniques, we allow our patients to practice new ways to control the body and mind through improved mental health and coping skills.
